Regenerating LA: Nature Tech and Human Connection with Craig Derian CTO Geoship

Apr 22, 2025

🌟 A Night of Vision, Action, and Bioregional Dreaming

Hosted by Geoship Ambassadors Christina Lila Wilson & Carmen Henrikson
📍 Astralab | LA Climate Week 2025
Co-Sponsored by Geoship, Azizam Wines, Circle Box Ventures & AstraLab

On a warm LA evening, just hours after being dreamed into reality, a regenerative spark was ignited at Astralab—an ancient futurism incubation space and the emerging home of the Urban Regenerative Collective. Organized quickly and purposefully by Geoship Ambassadors Christina Lila Wilson and Carmen Henrikson, the gathering was more than just a Climate Week event. It was the living pulse of a growing movement.
What unfolded was a deeply connected, interactive, and visionary night—centered on regenerating our homes, communities, and bioregions, together.

🌱 A Constellation of Change-Makers

The night kicked off with fresh-spiced crystal chai, botanical drinks from Teapot.LA, climate-adaptive wines from Azizam, and meals by Baloot. The space filled quickly with regenerative builders, civic innovators, artists, tech pioneers, and soulful Angelenos ready to reimagine LA.

“In-person matters,” said Carmen. “We threw this together fast, but that’s the magic—it’s already happening.”

🌍 The RegenLA Vision: A 7-Generation Bioregional Plan

Carrie Norton and the RegenLA team revealed their emerging blueprint for regenerating Southern California through a three-pronged approach:

  1. Strategic Systems Thinking — grounded in biocultural knowledge.

  2. Shared Learning Ecosystems — to inspire inclusive participation.

  3. Creative Financing Models — to identify and fill funding gaps.

“This isn’t just for LA. It’s a model for the world,” shared Carrie, calling for each of us to become architects of resilience in our neighborhoods.

🏡 Geoship: Regenerating Housing from the Ground Up

A highlight of the night was Geoship CTO Craig Derian’s keynote: “Reshaping the Future of Housing—A New Paradigm for Regenerative Living.”
Craig shared the Geoship mission:

  • Bioceramic domes made from magnesium phosphate “ceramic bone.”

  • Non-toxic, fireproof, and modular—built like Lego blocks.

  • Designed to be affordable, healthy, and easy to assemble—without skilled labor or petroleum products.

“Every home today is a prototype. We’re changing that. We’re making homes that regenerate people and the planet.” — Craig Derian, CTO, Geoship

Geoship isn’t just designing homes. It’s building an ecosystem—co-owned by people and nature, enabling decentralized, regenerative living for all.

⚡ Energy, Agriculture & Emergency Resilience
  • Carmen Henrikson of Circle Box Ventures led a spotlight on renewable microgrids, solar, and wind—showing how LA communities can power themselves into the future.

  • Azizam Wines’ founder Maryam Hariri shared how climate-adaptive viticulture can serve as a metaphor and model for transforming entire agricultural systems.

  • The crowd was invited to become Geoship ambassadors, reserve a dome, or invest in the regenerative movement.

💬 Group Engagement: Collective Commitments

The night reached its crescendo with interactive group discussions, where participants made real-time commitments to the regenerative vision:

🌾 Food & Gardens

  • Gardens for shade, pollinators, textiles, healing, and food.

  • Collective action: “We commit to walking LA with new eyes—identifying vacant lots and proposing community garden projects everywhere we see opportunity.”

🏘️ Housing & Accessibility

  • Emphasis on universal design and ADA compliance.

  • Commitment: “We must design homes that evolve with us—equitable for all ages and abilities. Let’s reimagine housing as a source of comfort, not constraint.”

🆘 Post-Disaster Rebuilding

  • Shared resources like the Building Resilient LA petition and the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program.

  • Commitment: “We pledge to educate ourselves about legal and community frameworks for resilience and to get CERT certified—because regeneration begins with readiness.”

“When a disaster hits, emergency responders may not reach you for 48–72 hours. You are your first responder—and your neighbor’s.” — Emily & Mark

🌟 Closing Words

“We hosted this event just to start the conversation. This is only the beginning. From LA to the world, regeneration is a journey we must walk together.” — Christina Lila Wilson

Let’s keep going. Let’s Regenerate LA.
